Advanced Word Processing and Desktop Publishing (1/2 Credit - 1 Semester):
This course will use MS Word and MS Publisher. Topics include columns, text boxes, tables, mail merge, newsletters, booklets, pamphlets, cut and paste from one program to another, saving files. The course subject matter is divided into lessons. Each lesson has a stated learning objective, which the student is expected to apply in a work assignment. Students are to file their work in personal data files. Printed copies of their work will be graded. Prerequisite: Students should have passed the Keyboarding / Word Processing course and have a working knowledge of the Windows environment.
Spreadsheet and Presentation Graphics (1/2 Credit - 1 Semester):
This course explores spreadsheet and presentation programs using MS Excel and MS PowerPoint. With Excel, students are introduced to worksheet basics, files, formulas, functions, formatting, and charts. Using PowerPoint, students create and enhance slides, work with template presentations and slide shows. Students have access to digital cameras, color scanners, and color ink jet and laser printers. Prerequisite: Students should have passed the Keyboarding/Word Processing course and have a working knowledge of the Windows environment.
CIS 101 (Taught at KCHS through Pace University) (½ Credit - 1 semester + credits from Pace Univ.):
This is a three-credit, introduction to computing course that gives students hands-on experience with Excel, web development (HTML), and Internet programming (JavaScript) as well as an overview of how computers work and the roles they play in education, work and society. Fee: ~$100 plus textbook. Prerequisite: 85 or better overall average plus successful completion of the Spreadsheet course.
