RELIGIOUS STUDIES

9th Grade - Introduction to Catholicism:

As a first experience with a high school religion curriculum, this course will begin by introducing the students to the fact that they are personally called by a God of love. The course begins with proving the existence of God, our understanding of the Holy Trinity and our relationship with Him. The goal of the course is to help the students grow in their relationship with God through Christ and His Church. This is done by explaining the basic beliefs of our Faith, and the articles in the Apostles' Creed.

10th Grade - Sacramental System, Prayer and Worship:

Building on the student's previous introduction to God, Christ and the Church, the mystery of our sacramental life is explored. The student learns the nature, historical background, rites and celebrations of each of the seven sacraments. The message of Christianity through the sacraments and prayer leads the students to conversion and a more abundant spiritual life.

11th Grade - Christian Morality:

This course is designed to provide the students with the opportunity to learn the process of decision-making and formation of conscience. Catholic moral principles are used as the foundation of this decision-making process. An in-depth investigation of contemporary moral and social issues is undertaken, giving the students an opportunity to apply Catholic moral principles to these issues. The course will also include an examination of the mystery of human suffering and death in light of the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

12th Grade - Christian Lifestyles:

Through Baptism the Christian is committed to a lifestyle that reflects the Gospel message. No matter what vocation one chooses, one must still ask, "How am I to live in the world as a Christian?" This course aims to help the student answer this question through an examination of such topics as human development, communication skills, relationships, a consistent ethic of life and Christian stewardship. The students explore such topics as the vocations of marriage, priesthood, religious life and the single life.
