WOMEN'S VARSITY
Making the Leap
The real story of the 2006 girls’ varsity lacrosse team cannot be told on paper. No, the truth lies not on paper, but on the turf.
In just its second year at the varsity level the young team showed marked improvement, going 1-8 with a victory against a strong Keio Academy team (12-4). The Gaels were led by senior Amanda Wilson and sophomore Fiona Decaudin with 9 points apiece. The two were named Co-MVPs for the year, with the Freshman of the Year award going to Victoria Gagne. Sophomore Lauren Hatch and junior Melanie Suarez earned the Coach’s Award, while the prize for Team Spirit went to sophomore Tina Kendzor.
Though inexperienced, Kennedy held its own against league competition. Coach Robert Schwartz said the focus this year was advancing the team’s fundamentals—passing, throwing, catching and cradling.
Mr. Schwartz would like to have the team participate in a February 2007 camp so they can head into the season with improved confidence and skills, and compete more consistently at the varsity level. Additionally, with girls’ varsity soccer moving back to the fall, the team hopes to benefit from the increased availability of seasoned athletes.
