Congratulations are in order for 19 Kennedy Catholic students who placed in the 50^th percentile or better on the recent National Spanish Examination. The exam itself is the most widely used test of Spanish in the United States, and more than 100,000 students from across the country took it this spring. Based on their scores, gold medals will be awarded to Douglas Crockatt, Patrick Delacruz, Kristina DePalma and Matt DiSalvo, who each scored in the 95^th percentile or higher. Louis Fusco and John Oros will be awarded silver medals for scoring the 85^th – 94^th percentile range. Bronze medals will be given to Michelle Modica, Cindy Gonzalez, Juan Jiménez, Patricia Cobar, Anthony Pais and Jessica Figa, who all scored in the 75^th – 84^th percentile.  And Milena Guerra, Sandye Rodríguez, Symone Dotson-Lassic, Johanna Hidalgo, William Ledley, Danielle Kloster and Alexis Rodriguez have qualified for Certificates of Excellence for scoring in the 50^th – 74^th percentile. Congratulations, again, to these high-performing students, as well as to Chair Mrs. Ellen Kelly and teachers Mr. Jacob Bergmeier and Mr. Brent Tieber.

According to the New York State Sportswriters Association, the Kennedy Catholic boys’ varsity baseball team is currently ranked second among all Class B teams in the state. The Gaels currently sits atop the Section 1, League III-A standings at 13-2, with a league record of 5-1. Congratulations guys!  You can catch Kennedy Catholic in action again this Tuesday, May 6, at 4:30 p.m. at home against Croton-Harmon.

Current parent and Westchester County Legislator George Oros had something special in store for one Kennedy Catholic senior at the 2008 President’s Dinner on May 1 at Colonial Terrace in Cortlandt Manor. In addition to the 16 seniors recognized with Certificates of Excellence--Lindsay Burke, Brian Coughlin, John Delfino, Melissa Imprescia, Christina Kendzor, Danielle Kloster, Brittany Lloyd, Nick Lopilato, Kelly Mertens, Stephen Murray, Emily Novak, John Oros, Ellen Ring, Erich Staib, Gabby Sussman and Nicole Visovsky--Nicole Bauso was presented with a proclamation from the Westchester County Board of Legislators on behalf of Legislators Oros and Michael Kaplowitz naming May 2 “Nicole Bauso Day" throughout Westchester County. Congratulations Nicole!

On Saturday, April 19, Kennedy Catholic senior Lindsay Burke will be one of only 27 students in the Archdiocese of New York—and only a handful from Westchester—to meet Pope Benedict XVI at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers. Lindsay and another student from North Rockland High School will be presenting His Holiness with the gift white bread, symbolizing the cultural heritages of Western Europe, North American and Oceania.  Watch Lindsay’s interview with Grace Noone of News 12 Westchester.

For all seniors, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available only on the Web. Please use the link above to start your application and find out more valuable information about financial aid. Feel free to contact your guidance counselor with any questions you may have.

If you’ve ever wanted to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, here’s your chance. Join your Kennedy Catholic president, Father Stephen Norton, along with Father Ed Cipot, as they take you to some of the most renowned sites in Biblical history  from Aug. 11-20. Your pilgrimage will include stops at Mount Tabor, site of the Transfiguration, a boat ride across the Sea of Galilee, and visits to the Mount of Olives and the Garden of Gethsemane, among others.

 

The cost of this pilgrimage, which departs from JFK International Airport, is $2,499.  There is a $300 deposit due by April 11.  The balance, along with the necessary taxes and tips ($357), is due to Unitors Inc. by June. 10.  Transportation to and from JFK airport will be determined by the number of people coming from the northern Westchester area.
