A: Email is normally the most effective form of communication between teacher/ counselor and parents. However, phone calls are welcome too. All teacher and counselor email addresses are listed under personnel/administration on our website
Q: Can my child change his/her course after it has commenced?
A: Decisions regarding course change are made jointly by the teacher, department head, and Dean of Academics, Ms. Willis. Pertinent student information such as course performance, standardized test scores, and 7th/8th grade performance are reviewed to assist in this decision-making process. Students are not allowed to change courses on the basis of a student-teacher conflict.
Q: When can I expect to receive a student progress report?
A: Progress reports are sent home via mail at the halfway point of each quarter. Teachers typically give progress reports to students who need to show improvement in their coursework. Parents and students are encouraged to speak to teachers with about their concerns.
Q: How can my child obtain extra help in a class?
A: Extra help is available for students by a number of teachers during/after school at regularly scheduled times or by request. The National Honor Society’s Peer Tutor Program offers peer tutoring for students during their scheduled study hall periods. Students can see their school counselor for more details including the tutor request form.
The counseling department also has an outside tutor list available upon request from parents/students.
Q: What Regents tests will my son/daughter take this year?
A: Biology and Math may be taken during a students freshmen year and will be given in June.
Q: What are SAT Subject tests and why are they important?
A: SAT Subject tests are one-hour, mostly multiple-choice tests that measure student’s knowledge about a particular subject. Freshmen are only prepared to take the Biology SAT Subject Test by the end of the year. It is recommended particularly if a student has high aptitude in Biology and has potential interest in a college major/career field involving the sciences.
Q: How can my child obtain counseling?
A: A referral for outside counseling for a Kennedy student can be obtained from the student’s counselor.
