Progress reports are given out four times throughout the school year, about midway through each quarter. This gives the student approximately four weeks to improve their academic standing. Progress reports are an efficient way for a parent and teacher to communicate about a student’s scholastic and social development. Very often this is the teacher’s first attempt to contact the parent of their child’s academic standing. Progress reports are not always negative and can be a way for the teacher to relay a message to the parents. If you do get a progress report that concerns you, the first step is to contact the teacher or teachers directly. It is important to remember that progress reports show the students tentative grade and can be improved by the end of the quarter. Parents should remain in contact with the child’s teacher to ensure that they stay informed. Greater parental involvement eliminates the surprises that can be delivered through end-of-term report cards.
Academic Probation and Ineligibility:
A student who has two failures on a progress report or report card (but not consecutively) will be placed on academic probation. Academic probation is to be understood as a warning that ineligibility is a possibility and should be taken very seriously.
A student with two failures in June, provided these failures are erased in summer school, will be placed on probation until the first report of the new year.
If a student receives three or more failing progress reports the student is ineligible to participate in any extracurricular activities until a passing grade is reflected on the next report card or progress report. A student who has two failures on two consecutive reports in ineligible until the next report is issued.
Progress reports will be reported to the main office on the following dates and mailed directly to your home shortly after. Report Cards are given to each student on the following dates at the end of the school day.
