BUSINESS
Introduction to Occupations:
A skills course covering human relations (self and interaction with others), decision-making and problem solving, economics of work, working citizens, and personal resources. Specifically geared toward expectations on the job, how to function at work, career choice and job search. Banking and credit for the individual is also covered. The students will have a better understanding of how humans function and interact at work and be able to use a checking account and have a basic understanding of credit use.
Personal Finance:
This course prepares students for financial realities they will encounter and have to deal with in their daily lives. Students explore the many aspects of personal finance from personal budgeting and personal credit to building and financing a home. Other areas include the options that exist around buying a new or used car, financial aspects of setting up a business, making sound purchasing decisions, and gaining facility in using the many tools available to calculate the real cost of a purchase. How can a $20 pizza end up costing $39? How do you borrow money in the most economically wise manner? What troubles can you incur with the use of credit? Is what you “need” truly a need, or is it a want?
Business Law:
An overview of criminal and civil tort law. The relationship of business law to an individual’s personal life and / or occupational life will be studied. Major emphasis of contracts, agency, bailments, credit law, real estate law, warranties, copyrights, and law applied to minors. Students will have an understanding of business law affects daily life as both a consumer and business.
Business Ownership and Marketing:
The students will gain knowledge of corporate organization and structure in general, and specific background of product conception through sales. This is a preliminary course for any one interested in a business career. The course will cover a comparison of major business forms with emphasis on corporations and a review of organization structure and function of each department. Students will create a business partnership incorporating the use of business plans and computer simulations.
